I agree with everything that you have said regarding the colour palettes and I think it would be nice to see a little more blue as this is very eye catching. I would like to see more space around the navigation and the heading as it is all quite dark it feels quite compact. I think more spacing will also really reflect the modern styling of the background. This is a really nice site, the main alternating images are great and have quite a large impact on the user. Other point which I found sort of annoying is the blue title link showing when hovering the slide show. Especially when your trying to hit the navigation bar.
